Plastic bags are essentially indestructible, yet they're used and thrown away with reckless abandon. Most end up in the ocean, where they pollute the water and harm marine life; the rest are burned in garbage piles, where they release harmful dioxins into the atmosphere. Melati and Isabel Wijsen are on a mission to stop plastic bags from suffocating their beautiful island home of Bali. Their efforts — including petitions, beach cleanups, even a hunger strike — paid off when they convinced their governor to commit to a plastic bag-free Bali by 2018. "Don't ever let anyone tell you that you're too young or you won't understand," Isabel says to other aspiring activists. "We're not telling you it's going to be easy. We're telling you it's going to be worth it." TEDTalks is a daily video podca...

(23 Feb 2017) The UN Environment Program (UNEP) on Thursday launched a campaign to encourage the elimination plastic-based marine litter over the next five years. At the Economist World Ocean Summit in Bali, UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim said it was time to tackle the plastic problem in the world's oceans, in part by using materials made from local produce such as cassava instead of fossil-fuel based plastics. The UNEP says more than 8 million tons of plastic ends up in the oceans every year and that 80 percent of all litter in our oceans is made of plastic. Indonesia is among a group of countries publicly committed to reducing the amount of plastic that winds up in the world's oceans. The Bali government today signed an agreement authorizing a mass vaccination campaign to immunize nearly 400,000 dogs. The new, island-wide program is being funded by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), working closely with the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA,) and is an essential first step toward the government's goal to eradicate rabies from the island by 2012. Note: This film was originally produced prior to June 2014, when we were known as the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). We are now World Animal Protection.

Avani is embarking on a campaign in striving for a cleaner and greener world. Close to 300 million tons of plastic is generated globally per year, and with that plastic has caused much damage for our lands, oceans and also the whole biodiversity around us. While Reduce, Reuse Recycle is being encouraged by institutions this slow trickled of education may take too long and REPLACE, inevitably becomes the only hope to combat this massive epidemic. Avani offers a wide range of biodegradable and compostable products which could REPLACE the usage of petroleum-based plastic right away. Become our partner in striving for a cleaner and greener Earth. And say I AM NOT PLASTIC!
